Book Review: The Alchemist

Paulo Coelho’s international Best Seller, The Alchemist was first published in 1988 and has been translated into 70 different languages as of now. The book carries the story of an Andalusian Shepherd and his quests to find a treasure somewhere near the Pyramids of Egypt – of which he had a vision in recurrent dreams. A mere 80 pages will take you on a journey of events that are sure to leave you with an abundance of life lessons.
I began to note down all the lessons from this book when I started reading here is list:

  • God will always be there to lead you no matter what.
  • When you really want something, the universe always conspires in your favor; this must have been the core lesson that the writer had in mind as major part of the book rolls around it.
  • We have to cleanse our minds of negative thoughts in order to attract positivity.
  • We have to take advantage when luck is on our side, and do as much to help it as it’s doing to help us. It’s called the principle of favorability. Or beginner’s luck
  • Not everyone can see his dreams come true in the same way.
  • You must always know what it is that you want, or better yet try to figure it out this was also one of the shepherd’s struggles.
  • Every blessing ignored becomes a curse. You have to be thankful for and be content with, what you have.
  • Never stop dreaming – an advice from the old king where he also explained the boy to follow the omens.
  • There is a language of the world that everybody understands; the language of enthusiasm, of things accomplished with love and purpose, and as part of a search for something believed in and desired.
  • There’s no such thing as coincidence – everything that happens, happens for a reason.
  • People need not fear the unknown if they are capable of achieving what they need and want.
  • We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it’s our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand- by hand it means our Creator.
  • If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man, because life is the moment we’re living right now.
  • The future belongs to God, and it is only he who reveals it, under extraordinary circumstances.
  • Forget about the future, and live each day according to the teachings, confident that God loves his children. Each day, in itself, brings with it an eternity.
  • people who are happy have God within them
  • Most people see the world as a threatening place, and, because they do, the world turns out, indeed, to be a threatening place – it’s all about perspectives.
  • When you possess great treasures within you, and try to tell others of them, seldom are you believed
  • Never Give in to your fears, as thet makes you unable to talk to your heart.
  • One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.
  • Everything is written in the Soul of the World, and there it will stay forever. That is Destiny.

These are a few inspirational lines I picked up from this magical tale about following one’s dreams.

Movie Review: the Pursuit of Happyness

As the name goes by, the movie surely is a Quest of happiness by a single parent for his one and only son after his wife decides to abandon them over a conflict between the husband and wife. What came out as a sad and tragic beginning, turns over into an inspirational life account – one that could definitely water the eyes of even those with the strongest of hearts.  Will Smith (Christopher Gardener) & Jaden Smith’s (Christopher) Marvelous acting plus excellent direction by Gabriele Muccino and of course the amazing story line blended together – can only fairly be called a classic piece of art. The movie did win 7 Awards and I would say it was only shy of an Oscar. Will & Jaden pulled out an outstanding father-son Duo, dealing with challenges life throws, living the very brief yet short lived happy moments and the struggles of a broken family. This is no ordinary children’s movie with action or drama – it is more of an inspirational yet touching life story. It portrays real life situations like how a frustrated father tends to behave and how the young child could be affected by these tensions, what it is like to be part of a broken family, to be poor, be deprived of education & shelter & how far a parent can go only to bring happiness for their children.  All in all I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone as it not only portrays the pursuit of happiness but also has great life lessons relating the value of money, hard work, love & relations; that would leave you inspired like you never were and full of emotions.

Eid ul Fitr – 2017

Eid – The most auspicious occasion on the Muslim Calendar, granted to us as a reward for fasting in the month of Ramadan- yet somehow we seem to be losing the very spirit of it. Gone are the days when the sighting of the shawal Moon used to be an occasion in itself, let alone 1st Shawal, the Eid day. Muslims all around the world make special preparations for this day; shopping rigorously, cooking special foods to be served on the special day and also buying presents for the children. The Eid day is all about greeting each other, sharing love, hosting guests, visiting friends & relatives, hosting Eid parties and what not. However nowadays, you may hear someone say
oh Eid day! I will make sure to have plenty of sleep” or maybe
I’m too tired to visit anyone”  some may justify not going out to relatives by saying
Well they don’t visit us why should we?”

Such is becoming the custom and I fear the day this holiday would be just another holiday for us. Let’s not let it happen and do what it takes to make the Eid holiday a special, traditional one. Here are a few tips to follow

What to do on Eid Day?

  1. Get up Early Cleanse yourself and dress yourself in your Eid clothes.
  2. Go to the Eid Gaah and say your Eid Prayers.
  3. Upon returning home greet your family and sit together have some family time
  4. If you have guests coming over you may just be lucky or you have an elderly at home.
  5. Make it a point to visit relatives, set aside some time for this.
  6. Try to invite people over to your place to eat together.

Do whatever it takes to make Eid – the special occasion it is .. And Eid Mubarak to all in Advance!!

Movie Review: IT

The rain poured heavily as George struggled to keep up with the Boat that had slipped from his hand. This boat was very dear to George as his elder brother had made it for him. Chasing the boat as fast as he could, George saw that the water was faster even so near the drain where the boat was headed. As he tried to speed up, his feet slipped and he went sprawling down – the boat floated inside the drain. The young boy moved towards the drain and peeked into it- what he saw shook him to the very core.
“Huh” said a voice from the drain, and George could see a set of Yellow eyes. As he was about to flee this terrifying scene, the kid was taken aback when this creature from the drain called
” Hi! Georgie”………………….

Cruelty at its Worse!

What has happened to us? What Exactly have we become? BARBARIANS ? Well No! Even they are better than these Creatures that work at this poultry farm.  A recent undercover footage taken at several LILYDALE suppliers exposes this horrible reality. Workers at this place have no idea as to what humanity may be. The footage shows workers ripping off the heads and legs of live chickens; violently jamming birds into overcrowded transport crates; running over live birds with forklifts; and hitting, kicking, and throwing chickens. Lilydale is a Lob-law chicken supplier and has farms across the USA, New South Wales and Queensland.
Animal cruelty has been on the rise in the past years despite the many laws developed in order to curtail this inhumane practice. One of the major reasons behind this is the illegal rights of the Multinationals to escape any inspection or scrutiny. Below are some pictures of the footage.
Caution: the  Images are Extremely Violent  watch at your own risk.

A worker ruthlessly stepping on a Chicken!1

This one is a shot of a chicken being ripped apart live just out of insanity of these workers.

3

This is the ugliest, most insensitive scene throughout that whole horrible footage. Won’t say much on this as the picture says it all.
5

Yet another disturbing image.. !!
6

Chickens are simply left on the ground to die slowly and painfully.
7

This worker is using a chicken to wipe off his pants.
8

When they just can’t get enough they simply start kicking these poor chicken.
9

Before you decide to go to the Grocery store to buy Chicken just think about what these animals go through to just to be served as meat.
We are humans and as humans it is our responsibility to take actions against these creatures disguised as men.

Fasting – For What You Desire

Fasting is a holy practice observed by Muslims all around the world during the month of Ramadan i.e. the ninth month on the Islamic calendar. The basic procedure for fasting is to refrain from food and drinks from Dawn to Dusk. Before and after these times people fulfill their hunger needs.
For Muslims fasting is not just a means of testing how we control our hunger or thirst in fact it is very much the opposite of that. For us Muslims the purpose of fasting can never be fulfilled if all we achieve from our fast is hunger and thirst. Our God the Almighty have masterminded every plan with a reason behind each one He commands us to do. Below are a few attributes that fasting helps inculcate in a person:
Patience– knowing you have the necessary supplies but you just cannot use them because of that promise you made to God at the breaking of Dawn. That way one develops self-control.
Obedience– Since the very reason we fast is obeying the commands of our Lord.
Empathy– Starving oneself lets them see what the people who live in poverty go through at times of need, knowing what it feels like to be hungry/thirsty encourages people to help others to alleviate their hunger and distress.
Purification– Fasting purifies the soul from all sorts of adversaries and brings about the goodness in man. For a Muslim the key purpose of fasting is developing Taqwa (can be described as fear of God)

However, these are just the benefits that cannot be interpreted physically, there’s more to it.
Ever wondered why so many Non-Muslims fast?
What the innumerous studies found about fasting?
Well here’s your answer

  • First and foremost, this is the easiest known ways to lose body fat. No special diet plans, no specific exercises just break from food and there you go. Also it is known from studies that when the stored glucose has been used up it is only then the body starts burning calories, which aids weight loss.
  • A boost of the Immune System- A study, conducted by Dr. Valter Longo and colleagues from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles ( As posted by Medical News Today), found longer periods of fasting – 2-4 days – may restart the immune system, by replacing old immune cells with newer ones.
  • Detoxification- within a few days of fasting the body detoxifies itself by getting rid of all the stored fats and toxins.
  • It was also noted that within a few days of fasting the body produces endorphins. Endorphins are hormones that trigger a positive feeling in the body that is accompanied by a positive and a lively stance on life. Also known as Happy hormones.
  • Recent studies have shown improvements in blood pressure and cholesterol levels also in insulin sensitivities, due to Fasting.

Looking upon the several benefits fasting can bring about it is up to each individual, to fast or not to fast. Also it may vary from person to person with what it is that we desire from our fast, a healthy Body, A clean Soul, or simply the chance to please GOD.
