Book Review: The Alchemist

Paulo Coelho’s international Best Seller, The Alchemist was first published in 1988 and has been translated into 70 different languages as of now. The book carries the story of an Andalusian Shepherd and his quests to find a treasure somewhere near the Pyramids of Egypt – of which he had a vision in recurrent dreams. A mere 80 pages will take you on a journey of events that are sure to leave you with an abundance of life lessons.
I began to note down all the lessons from this book when I started reading here is list:

  • God will always be there to lead you no matter what.
  • When you really want something, the universe always conspires in your favor; this must have been the core lesson that the writer had in mind as major part of the book rolls around it.
  • We have to cleanse our minds of negative thoughts in order to attract positivity.
  • We have to take advantage when luck is on our side, and do as much to help it as it’s doing to help us. It’s called the principle of favorability. Or beginner’s luck
  • Not everyone can see his dreams come true in the same way.
  • You must always know what it is that you want, or better yet try to figure it out this was also one of the shepherd’s struggles.
  • Every blessing ignored becomes a curse. You have to be thankful for and be content with, what you have.
  • Never stop dreaming – an advice from the old king where he also explained the boy to follow the omens.
  • There is a language of the world that everybody understands; the language of enthusiasm, of things accomplished with love and purpose, and as part of a search for something believed in and desired.
  • There’s no such thing as coincidence – everything that happens, happens for a reason.
  • People need not fear the unknown if they are capable of achieving what they need and want.
  • We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it’s our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand- by hand it means our Creator.
  • If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man, because life is the moment we’re living right now.
  • The future belongs to God, and it is only he who reveals it, under extraordinary circumstances.
  • Forget about the future, and live each day according to the teachings, confident that God loves his children. Each day, in itself, brings with it an eternity.
  • people who are happy have God within them
  • Most people see the world as a threatening place, and, because they do, the world turns out, indeed, to be a threatening place – it’s all about perspectives.
  • When you possess great treasures within you, and try to tell others of them, seldom are you believed
  • Never Give in to your fears, as thet makes you unable to talk to your heart.
  • One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.
  • Everything is written in the Soul of the World, and there it will stay forever. That is Destiny.

These are a few inspirational lines I picked up from this magical tale about following one’s dreams.
